Bunny and I headed to California to see our friends Jeni and Eric get married in Lake Tahoe. We decided to make a little vacation out of it. Flew into San Francisco and spent a couple of days sight-seeing there. From there we drove up to Muir Woods on our way over to Napa. We spent a day there, visited a winery and did a little tasting. After Napa we headed over to South Lake Tahoe for a wonderful wedding, high on the mountain top. Great trip but it was too short, like most of them.
Taken from Alamo Square.

Yep, in San Francisco little more than an hour and already made it to the pub.
Magnolia Pub and Brewery. Sara’s Ruby Mild on the left, which is what Bunny had. On the right is my Proving Ground IPA.

I look weird in this picture.
Howard Street IPA on the left and Polar Bear Pilsner on the right.
Welcome to the Rock. I repeated this phrase to Bunny several times in a really bad Sean Connery accent.
Alcatraz.
Alcatraz.
Lots of birds on Alcatraz.
The morgue at Alcatraz.
And there were baby birds there too.
Here is your standard cell at Alcatraz.
Down at the end of this block is the solitary cells.

This was the bar spreader used in an escape attempt in 1946 that led to the Battle of Alcatraz.
Pictures of all the Wardens.
Apparently, prisoners couldn’t always be trusted to put the knives in the kitchen back.
Some of the infamous residents at Alcatraz including Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly.
How a cell would have looked back in the day.
Alcatraz.
Interesting.
View of the city on the way back from Alcatraz.
Saw this while waiting for the cable cars.
We stopped at Ghiradelli Square for lunch.
The Escape Man. According to him, if you don’t give him money, he will follow you the rese of the damn day, because he has nothing better to do.
He got out. I didn’t time him but it was supposed to be in under a minute and a half.
After an hour and half wait, several banjo songs (including a pretty good rendition of “Paint it Black”) we made it onto the cable car.
Ever wonder how they turn a cable car around? Probably not. 🙂
That’s how.
Another view of Alcatraz.
Ghiradelli Square.
To get to Lombard Street from Ghiradelli Square, you walk straight up hill. We were a little tired at this point.

Ate at Town Hall with my cousins Pam and Mike. I had Salmon and washed it down with a Pliny the Elder.
Bunny had fried chicken.
After two days we left San Francisco and headed for Napa. Stopped at Muir Woods along the way to see the redwoods.
Bunny in front of a big ole tree.
The road was a little winding. One of the places I had fun driving.
Stopped at Hendry Ranch Winery for a tour and tasting.
Hendry Ranch Winery.
Bunny with Sadie the winery dog. She demands attention like our cats do.
The rental, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
Our hotel had a gondola going right over it.
So, yeah, we bought a bottle at Hendry and then we drank it.
Actually on the Nevada side looking out over Lake Tahoe.
We stopped here to take pictures.
One more brewery on this trip. This was at Stateline Brewery, the beer however was Watermelon Wheat from 21st Amendment Brewing in San Francisco.

This is where Jeni and Eric got married. Nice view up here.

Forgot to go outside and get a sunset picture until it was almost too late.
