7 Iron Whiff Golf Trip 2020 – Tacoma, WA/Bend, OR

The 7IWGT 2020 was supposed to happen over Memorial Day.  As you probably guessed, COVID-19 required a postponement.  We scheduled ourselves to go the week after Labor Day.  Things were up in the air until the last minute due to wild fires happening in Oregon.  We decided to go ahead and press on with hopes that the air would clear up.  It was necessary to remain flexible in our plans and make some last minute changes.  All in all, things worked out for pretty well.  We didn’t get to all the courses we planned but were happy with the nine rounds we got in.

Started everything off with a visit to Chambers Bay in Tacoma, WA, the site of the 2015 U.S. Open.  While we played through fog and a little smoke all day, this was one the most fun courses I have ever played.  The pictures may not do it justice as the sky was gray and you couldn’t see the water, but we had great caddies and the staff were absolutely great to work with.

After that we were supposed to go on to Bend, OR but air quality issues closed the courses were intended to play.  So instead we made a last minute tee time at Salish Cliffs Golf Club in Shelton, WA.  Had to play through some fog here too but what a great course.  Well kept and challenging.

From there we moved on to Bend, OR and had to reconfigure our plans a little.  We played both the Ridge Course and Resort Course at Eagle Crest Resort, the Nicklaus Course at Pronghorn Resort, Tetherow, and finished up at Aspen Lakes.  You will see from the photos that there was some smoke issues that we played through on most of the courses.  Our best day, air quality wise, came at Tetherow where we added a second  round since it was a fairly clear day.
